That Malaysian AI company

That Malaysian AI company

It was a family gathering, and knowing that you are a freelance IT consultant, a distant relatives approached you to help out on a project he secured.

That is how Yee Chee Meng came into Infomina.

By 2014, the company managed to secure a project from Customer C, but to pull it off, it needed RM 1 million.

Yee, with help from Raymond Lim came up with the money.

That project gave the company the track record it needed to secure other blue chip customers.

By 2022, when the company IPO in the ACE market, the order book amounted to RM443.6 million.

Like KGB Berhad, the company structured its business in two segments, ‘Turnkey’ and ‘Renewal’.

In simple terms, once the company set up the system via the ‘Turnkey’ segment, it naturally become the best candidate to maintain it.

In 2025, the ‘Renewal’ segment was enerating RM170.9 million—a massive 86.9% of total revenue.

This is a moat investor looked for, and instiution investor like Norges and Public Mutual owned significant position in the company.

Its customers are mostly good paymaster, but in 2025, the company hit a snag when it faced a massive RM10.04 million impairment provision due to a payment dispute with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).

For a company that makes 33.05 million in 2024, this is a severe hit.

The ‘Renewal’ segment has kept the company afloat when the going gets tough.

As the company navigates itself out of the legal quagmire with its Filipino customer, it is developing new AI solutions that have started to bring in new contracts.

As Malaysia charts its own AI future, Infomina could be a beneficiary of that journey.

As a company that once borrowed money from its IT Freelance consultant, Infomina has certainly come a long way.
